What advice on the internship application process would you give to another TU student
interested in this internship?

When interviewing for this position, remember: It’s just a meeting! Get to know them
as they get to know you. Express your love of helping people!

What did you do as an intern at this organization?

I interned at a non-profit educational summer program that is aimed towards providing
at-risk youth with a safe and productive environment that will foster their education
so they don’t forget everything over summer. During this experience, I taught classes
to the middle school academy scholars. I designed lesson plans that enhance the Virginia
Standards of Learning (SOLs) and that would help the students in life.

What were the challenges you faced in your internship?

One of my biggest challenges was dealing with conflicts that arose with students and
difficult topics that got brought up. Some of the students had very difficult home
lives, and we had to approach certain topics very carefully.
