Interesting fact about Skid Row
The term ‘skid row’ originated around 1900, when the term ‘skid road’ was used to describe the part of a town that was frequented by loggers, who made roads or tracks of logs laid crosswise on one another. The loggers, who were in town to have fun drinking at bars and visiting brothels, often stayed in cheap rooms or passed out on the street. By the 1930s, the term ‘skid row’ replaced ‘skid road,’ and its current meaning had come into use.
