Physical Accessibility | Towson University

Accessible Parking

Anyone who displays a valid, state-issued parking placard or license plate for individuals
with a disability and a current university parking permit may park in designated accessible
spaces. The individual who is the authorized user of the accessibility permit must
be a driver or passenger of the vehicle. Visitors may purchase a university parking
day permit at a pay station in one of the visitor lots.

Individuals with a disability placard and or plate may park at a stand-alone meter
for two time frames without cost if all designated accessible spaces are filled.

Shuttle Buses

The front seats of each campus shuttle bus are reserved for individuals with disabilities.
Not all shuttle buses can accommodate wheelchair users; in the event that the regular
assigned vehicle isn’t lift equipped, transportation can be arranged through the university’s
paratransit service.

Paratransit Service

TU’s Paratransit Service provides transportation to students, faculty, staff and visitors with permanent or
temporary disability needs. Paratransit vans are equipped with a wheelchair lift and
will make pickups at any campus location that is accessible safely by vehicle.

During the fall and spring terms, paratransit service is available around the clock
with the exception of 6 AM to 4 PM on Saturdays and Sundays. During breaks, Minimester
and summer sessions, service is available Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 7 PM
if classes are in session. If there are no classes, service is available Monday through
Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM Transport will be provided within 30 minutes of the requested
pickup time. Paratransit service can be requested by calling 410-704- 7433 (RIDE).

Those who wish to use services routinely must be registered and approved to use paratransit
services. Students can register through Accessibility and Disability Services. Faculty
and staff can register by contacting the Office of Human Resources through ADARequests AT_TOWSON. Visitors who wish to use the service on an on-going basis should contact Parking
and Transportation Services directly at UPARK AT_TOWSON to request an exception.

Paratransit services are not available when the university is closed or during certain
hours at times when no shuttles are in operation. If there is an emergency or immediate
need, please call TU Police at 410-704-4444 for assistance with transportation on
campus. See the university’s Emergency Closing Information.

Sidewalks and Paths

Rapid elevation changes throughout campus can be challenging and should be considered
when planning travel. In addition, buildings located outside of the campus core may
not be on an interconnecting accessible walkway. Most campus and county sidewalks
have curb cuts at road intersections but are not necessarily on accessible routes.

Please see the Accessibility Guide for accessible paths and walkways, as well as disability parking and paratransit
stops.
