No one really knows the origin of the idiom ‘no thanks to you.’ This somewhat rude statement may have been in use for more than one hundred years, or it may be relatively new; what is known however is that the word ‘thanks,’ meaning gratitude, has been in use since the middle of the 13th century. It was used as a shortened form of ‘I give you thanks’ ever since the 1580s.
